Margot Robbie’s Makeup Artist Is Obsessed With the UK’s Best-Selling Mascara

Choosing the right beauty product for you is always something of a personal experience—while it’s my job to recommend the best makeup and skincare on the market, I always caveat it with the fact that what works for me might not work for you. I’ve found, though, that of all the beauty products out there mascara can often be the most divisive. Ask your friend what their favourite one is and, oftentimes, you’ll find that they found a formula that they liked years ago and have stuck with it religiously ever since.

However, after celebrating the best-selling highlighter in America last week I started to do a little digging into which beauty products were topping the beauty charts in the UK. After all, there’s something to be said for an entire nation being obsessed with one specific product. First on my list: mascara. And there’s one specific beauty brand that the UK are utterly obsessed with when it comes to lashes.

Turns out, Benefit (everyone’s favourite teenage beauty brand) deliver on way more than their iconic lip and cheek stain. They’re actually the UK’s best-selling makeup brand when it comes to mascaras—and they’re not far behind when it comes to brow products either. In fact, the Benefit They’re Real Mascara has been the number 1 best-selling mascara in the UK for the past few years. And, when it isn’t in the top spot it’s usually only because it’s been knocked off by one of Benefit’s other two mascara formulas—Roller Lash or BadGal Bang.

A lengthening formula that mimics the effects of false lashes.

If the support of hundreds and thousands of Brits isn’t enough to convince you to try it though, maybe this fact will: celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff is also obsessed with Benefit mascaras.

Dubroff works on a whole roster of celebrity clients including the likes of Margot Robbie, Priyanka Chopra, Elizabeth Olsen, Lily Collins and beyond. So, basically, if this lady says that a mascara is worth using then it probably is.

“Benefit’s mascara builds a really good fill and gives a long-lasting look,” Dubroff told Vogue. “The ball at the end is great for building more product at the base.”

“The formula is buildable and the brush separates as you comb through,” explained Dubroff in an interview with The Huffington Post. “So you can get major length without that bulky or clumpy look. Two or three coats are all you need.”

This innovative mascara brush hooks onto every lash to lift and curl them into place.

For major volume, this thickening mascara really delivers.

Next up, of the 38 mascaras I’ve tested, these are the ones I’d recommend.

Meghan Markle’s Engagement Ring No Longer Looks Like It Did When She Got Engaged

The Duchess of Sussex can’t step out the door without eagle-eyed fans spotting even the tiniest of details when it comes to her appearance. Their latest discovery? It looks like Meghan may have given her engagement ring a little makeover, swapping the original band for a slimmer, diamond-set design. It seems Meghan first debuted this new ring when she and Harry introduced their son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor to the world, and we got another look during the Trooping the Colour ceremony, as she also showed off a new eternity ring, said to be an anniversary gift from Harry.

Meghan’s engagement ring was designed by Prince Harry and the jeweler Cleave and Company. Harry added diamonds from his mother Princess Diana’s collection to a large central stone sourced in Botswana, where he and Meghan spent time when they were dating. The ring was originally set on a solid yellow gold band, but now it seems to be set on a much more delicate, sparkling band. There are a number of reasons why Meghan may have decided to make the change to the ring: perhaps to better match her new eternity ring (which is also set with tiny diamonds) or because of wear to the gold of the original ring.

It’s also possible that Meghan needed to resize or adjust the ring during her pregnancy: swelling (edema) is a side effect many moms-to-be suffer from, and perhaps she used this as an excuse to also change the design a little? Whatever the reason, we’re sure you’ll agree that Meghan’s ring looks just as beautiful now as it ever has.

Everything We Know About Amazon Prime Day

We’ve been waiting for this grand shopping bonanza announcement for months. As June arrived and then marched on, we’d turn to each other at our desks, knowing that the event in question was getting closer: “When is Amazon going to announce Prime Day?” While this hallowed mid-summer sale event often falls around the same window of time every year, it doesn’t have a steady date. In fact, it’s oddly like waiting for someone to give birth. You have a vague idea of when it’s going to happen, but you never know exactly when — until you get the call. And today, we got it.

In an unprecedented feat of scheduling, Amazon has announced that Prime Day 2019 will run from 12 a.m. PT on Monday, July 15 through 11:59 p.m. PT on Tuesday, July 16, meaning that it will actually last for a full 48 hours. (Since Prime Day commenced, the massive e-tailer has been slowly fudging the English-language definition of “day,” expanding the sale window from 24 hours in 2015 to 36 hours last year — making 2019’s duration the longest in the history of the event.)

As always, the first rule of Prime Day is that you don’t talk about Prime Day have to an Amazon Prime membership to take advantage of the epic and ever-changing deals that will be on offer come July 15 — but conveniently, you can always sign up for a free 30-day trial period. And it might be worth your while more than ever this year — Amazon is trumpeting the best deals to date on Alexa-enabled devices, plus competitive offers on Amazon Music, Prime Video, and Twitch Prime. They’re even releasing one deal early: starting today, members can save $120 on a Toshiba HD 43-inch Fire TV Edition Smart TV. One hundred and twenty dollars (!). The R29 Shopping team is heated.

That’s really just the tip of the iceberg, so watch this space for more updates — we’ll be reporting on all of the savings in the home, fashion, tech, and beauty space as we learn about them. And get ready to act fast — inventory is always limited and quick to sell out during this promotion, so we suggest priming (sorry, had to) yourself to click the “buy” button, so as not to miss out.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.
